Hi! My name is Julia Drummond, and this is my first blog posting for Brick by Brick at Townhall.com. Wow, I could be making history here, you never know! The pressure is overwhelming!
I've decided to start this blog because quite frankly I'm really mad about the election results. I really am upset to think that my fellow countrymen (and women) could actually elect to the presidency a man with truly no accomplishments and whose words in no way resemble his past actions. But, even though I don't agree with most of his prescriptions for the problems facing our nation and even though I don't feel that he is ready for the Presidency, I sorta like Barack Obama. I know, it makes me mad too!!!!
Barack Obama has even made me feel a little sorry for a Clinton for goodness sake! That is just Twilight Zone weird and so surreal for me on so many levels.
I suppose that mainly though, I'm mad at me! Why not be mad at John McCain? Or the Republican party? Or Sarah "gosh I like her" Palin? Because when it all comes down to it, I'm a Republican, the party is made of people like me, and I (or we) are still stuck in the 80's!
I loved the 80's! It is when I grew up as a teenager! I found my political passion. I campaigned for Ronald Reagan! The 80's rocked!! The music rocked! We dressed really preppy and I didn't know who Bill Clinton was yet.
But, guess what. It is 2008 and it is time for me to move into the future and stop expecting another Ronald Reagan to show up. The 80's are gone, Ronald Reagan is gone, it is time for me and my party to morph into the future.
So, that is the purpose of this blog. To examine what our party can do to move into the future. Because our party and our conservative cause needs a deep introspective journey. Goodbye 80s!
